The Constitution should be defended, because it is the foundation of our society and our government. Every person who ever pledged to place his or her life on the line for this country swore to defend the Constitution. It doesn't matter if you are a liberal, a Democrat, a Republican, a Conservative or now a supporter of the Tea Party, the United States Constitution is a unique document that guarantees unalienable rights to the People and provides for government of the people, by the people and for the people. Unfortunately politicians and political parties have been trying to get around it since its inception. What in the world is the opposing side talking about? I am clinging to the notion that there is no excuse for ignorance in the 'information age' we all have access to information on a level which is unprecedented in human history! It does not take a rocket scientist to know the intent of the Constitution was to protect the people against abusive oppressive governments. Fascism is an oppressive dictatorship characterized by socio-economical terrorism, censorship, and racism. The very thing our Founding Fathers who drafted our Constitution sought to protect 'we the people' from. Furthermore, the United States Constitution does NOT require anyone to own a firearm. The Second Amendment to the Constitution in the 'Bill of Rights' reads as follows: " A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." This amendment limits the power of the government and protects the rights of those citizens who 'choose' to own a firearm. The opposing views submitted are, in there own way, supported by the Constitution of the United States as every citizen has the right to their own opinions and the freedom to express those opinions as they see fit. This is a right established and supported by the Constitution; without which, the discussions here would probably not be possible. Despite any opposition to our Constitution every citizen of the US supports it in some measure. The US Constitution has been an enduring establishment of our most basic freedoms for over 200 years and has provided us with the flexibility to grow and change to become the leader of representative democracy and freedom for the World. While it is not perfect, to not support and defend the Constitution in some measure would be to allow all the freedoms that we hold dear to be destroyed. Finally, the United States Constitution limits governmental powers over the people while at the same time preserving those powers essential to ensure the safety of its citizens. It is a truly amazing document despite it's imperfections. The beauty of the United States Constitution is - If you don't like something, you can change it, the first amendment gives the citizens of the United States the right to " . . . petition the government for a redress of grievances." Which I assume is the reason we all landed here at this website, it's time to join together behind ideas and make a change. The Constitution gives us that right, so let's stop confusing the issue with political party line rhetoric and support the original intent of the United States Constitution and the Declaration of Independence before it is too late!

Do you all read? Do you know your history? Do you know who actually formed the Constitution and what their intent was? Perhaps you are clinging to their notion that only the most educated and informed people should run the country. That would mean they would read occasionally. To make a statement that one supports the Constitution or not is to imply that if you don't agree with the most Facist right wing viewpoint is that you are not American. Where is it written in the Constitution that I have to agree with ANYONE's view to be considered patriotic to this country. My family has been here since the 1700s. The constitution also said EVERY citizen was REQUIRED BY THE US GOVERNMENT to own a firearm. Is that even wise today? And what does that say about the US GOVERNMENT's right to REQUIRE citizens to do anything?

One of the beauties of the constitution is that it is a broad document of principles that are timeless. The constitution is silent on many specific issues that are current and in need of common laws or regulations that spell out just what is acceptable and not in more specific terms that are not so subject to interpretation by individuals. Laws and regulations are a way for the people, through congress and the government to establish such order in places where the constitution is silent or is subject to widely varying individual interpretation. The constitution does not specifically permit or forbid many ideas and practices needed for orderly governance of the country. Laws should respect and comply with the constitution, to the extent that the constitution speaks to the subject of the law, but any number of laws may be needed in areas where the constitution is silent.

What about those who have served to protect the constitution. flag, country, and our freedoms. There have been many lives, loss of limbs, health, and other issues that were given in the sake of the flag, constitution, and country. We seen to forget how we have and continue to have our freedoms that we enjoy. It was for the love of country and flag that so many went to fight for the flag and country and this so true yet today. We have got to belive in our military and its members and not forget what they do for our constitution and country.

The United States Constitution is distinguished from other constitutions by its emphasis on restrictions and limitation of powers not the converse. The Constitution was drafted to protect the rights of the minorities against the actions of those in power. However, those who are in power and who have the funds have found ways to circumvent and undermine our Constitution. The result of this 'Constitutional Erosion' has created 'Big Government' who creates more laws and diminished rights and freedoms. The very fact that most americans cannot tell the difference between a 'constitution' which is how a government is to be administered, and a 'law' which is a rule of conduct created and mandated by a legislature is alarming to say the least. The United States the 'Constitution' limits governmental power and a 'Law' increases governmental power. This is the secret our Politicians do not want us to know! Any AMENDMENT to the United States Constitution would LIMIT GOVERNMENTAL POWER OVER THE PEOPLE! Wake up America!!!!! If you read the Constitution you will find out what our government is not supposed to be doing

Yes, let us not forget that we have the power. 'The People' have the power. Our constitution was created to also allow certain changes because our founding fathers knew that it wouldn't be perfect forever. Although the principles may seem timeless, that might not always be the case. We must always be heard.

I think there is need to re-address the 29th Amendment of the Constitution to ensure that no member of Congress receives a paycheck until an annual budget is passed. That is the prime function of Congress, yet after 5 years we only have CRs. The House passes appropriatrions and then balks at raising the debt ceiling THEY caused to increase. They are all hypocrites. "On October 1, if there is no Annual Budget, then Congress shall not be paid until a budget is passed. No retroactive payments shall be considered."
