The government need to reduce spending because it is borrowing more than 40 percent of every dollar it spends. The money it borrows adds to the 14 plus TRILLION dollar deficit and if it isn't paid off, it is taxation without representation on the unborn Americans of future generations. Cutting fraud, waste and abuse from the budget would help, but a balanced budget amendment would require government to live within its means and add stability to the economy. This would allow the private sector to quit worrying so much about future taxes and get to work creating new jobs and industries. The government does not really create wealth, it takes the private sector to do that.

There are times, like NOW, that we are in a very fragile state with the economy just beginning to improve, demanding that the Federal budget be balanced at all times, no matter what the status of the economy is just plain WRONG and really hurts the weakest among us. Striving for a balanced budget is an excellent goal. Perhaps resetting budgets submitted by each agency to (0) every year and requiring them to ask for as little as they can do with for two years would help. Asking those that have so much to give up what is a drop in the bucket to them, and yet the life-line to others would be a nice gesture. "Noblesse Oblige", remember?

Without a Balanced Budget Amendment the government will only spend more money and increase the the national debt in an effort to buy votes and gain power.

Why can't we balance the budget? Take a look at all the benefits that our elected officials receive; how many days they work. At a time of crisis, the budget, they had to come to a decision because they were due for one of their annual breaks. Also, check into the "black hole" accounts. I heard that one official has money earmarked for bridge in a place where there is no water. Here is another good one...in my state, MA, the Govenor wants to take the monies that were set aside for snow removal and give it to the MBTA subway system - $50,000. Shut the subway down and let them figure it out. We should not be giving money to the MBTA because they failed to balance their budget. Oh, well, that's our government

Borrowing to spend money we don't have hurts everyone. If the "wealthy" were taxed at 100%, that would fund current out of control government spending for 8 DAYS. State Dept controlled "foreign aid" should be $0. It's just graft and corruption. We're paying $2 billion/yr to the Egyptian government now controlled by radicals unfriendly to the US and another $1 billion/yr to Pakistan who shielded bin Laden for years. Get rid of the Dept of Education - that's a local/State responsibility. There are a huge list of expenditures that are not in the "national interest" that can be eliminated instead of Congressmen "bringing home the bacon" for votes. We don't need to be funding globalism. We need to get back to the fundamentals defined in the Constitution to provide a strong framework where all have the equal opportunity to thrive based upon their individual effort.

I agree with the opposinging side if we all pay a fair shaer of taxes,we could pay down tfe debt. Forget always saying no to taxes as long as we all pay are fair share. ok let me clear this up for all of us the limit will never go down the deficit will never go down the thing your not grasping is the more we give the more they take truth be told which it usually is not. The deficit has been gone for a long time in fact the government makes so much money on us and they think its a big joke they keep raising the amounts to see if we will continue to pay well most of us will in fear of the government well this is wrong because we shouldn't fear our government a government is designed to fear the people that created it. short and sweet fact is the government works for us we don't work for the government!!! in short the government has a spending problem and we need to smack there hands hard enough so they get the point and wont do it again. In sweet the world would be much more peaceful if everyone had guns and everyone minded there own business and kept there noises out of others.
